Frequently Asked Questions – all you need to know about the SerialSellers service.

What is SerialSellers?
SerialSellers is based in Battersea, London SW11. We sell things on eBay for other people. Our clients are individuals, businesses, or dealers, who want to sell personal possessions, excess stock, or equipment, but lack the time, people or expertise to do so. Small items for sale are usually delivered to our office in SW6, where they are catalogued and stored, listed on eBay, and then shipped once sold. Larger items remain with the seller until sold, when we liase with the purchaser and arrange a mutually convenient collection time.

What sells best?
There are thousands of eBay categories, so in truth almost anything will sell. Click on the What Sells? button to see a list of some of the items we have successfully sold in the past 12 months.

We try to weed out items that in our experience will not sell for more than £30. It just isn’t cost-effective for us, and it’s irritating for you. However, we are happy to evaluate anything you bring us, but don’t be offended if we turn things down. To save you time, it might be a good idea to send us an email with a list of your items, and we can do an evaluation.

You could even have a look on eBay yourself, and see if you can find similar items to get an idea of the price. Don’t forget – eBay is an auction, and it’s a global one. People buying know what they are looking for, and the market decides the price. Using SerialSellers ensures the best possible price.

Why do we start auctions at 99p?
Long experience tells us this is the best starting price. The idea that you might sell something worth pounds for pence can be worrying for eBay novices. But remember, eBay is an auction, and it appeals to people’s competitive instincts. Starting at 99p encourages more bidders to jump in at the beginning of an auction. Once they’re interested, they usually stay, and prices can shoot up dramatically in the final minutes of an auction for an item that has apparently attracted little interest.

It has to be said that sometimes that doesn’t happen, and we have to legally accept the highest bid; we cannot return an item that has sold for a disappointing price. If your item is valuable, precious to you, or unusual, discuss setting a reserve; this can be done for a £10 fee.

Can I watch my items being auctioned?
If you can stand the excitement! When you drop off items with us, we will give you a receipt and explain how to track your items.

What if my stuff doesn’t sell?
If it doesn’t sell for 99p, then frankly it isn’t going to sell at all. Once a month we do a charity shop drop-off with the (very few) things that have gone unsold. Or you can come and collect it from us.

If an item with a reserve price is unsold, then we recommend re-listing it at a reduced reserve (at a cost of £10), or without reserve (no cost).

What if I can’t bring my stuff to you?
If you live in London we can collect for a fee (between £20 and £60 depending on where you live within the M25). Alternatively, you can post your items to us at your own cost; lots of our clients do this, and it works very well for non-fragile items.
